backflip os updates

posted by Admin 3:08 PM
Friday, June 25, 2010

This the latest news I got on the OS updates for the Motorola Backflip.

The software update (13.37) has been approved. When we spoke last, I mentioned that had we actually submitted a second update that further improves SMS performance which slightly delayed the TA of the load.

The new software patch is being pushed out as we speak and should have already began hitting handsets.  Keep in mind, not all handsets will receive the upgrade immediately.  It is a ramp up process that should take no more than a few weeks.

All handsets that are being sold in store have the newest load and have had it for a good week or so

. There is also a
$20 price reduction to $79.99 retail with a 2 year that was effective nationally yesterday.

For Android 2.1, we are still targeting Q3. As soon as I have a more solid timeline, I will make sure to share it.

Pandora is now playing ads on my blackberry 9700

I have been listening to Pandora almost everyday in the gym while I workout and just recently I started hearing an advertisement on Pandora. I have heard that you hear ads when listening to Pandora from a computer but I did not know ads would be played on my mobile.

I am not complaining Pandora is my favorite application on my Blackberry and I use it so much so what I hear and ad now once in a while. They used to only have ads on the screen when I looked at the Blackberry device but now after a few songs I hear one ad.

The one ad seems to come every half an hour and that ad has been the same ad over and over again. Springhill Suites is the only advertisement I hear on Pandora. I have not had any ads played before and now only Springhill Suites.

I would think Pandora would have me in their data base as a listener that selects high energy music around the same time almost every morning. This would mean I use the music for working out or energizing myself in the morning. Then the ads should be targeted for me with workout ads or energy drinks, something that would be more relevant than Springhill Suites.

AT&T and Motorola have released an update to the Motorola BACKFLIP device to enhance overall performance of the device. This software update provides improvements to messaging, display, camera, and Bluetooth functionality. This update will upgrade BACKFLIP devices from software version 0.12.1199 to 0.13.35.

This Blur Over The Air (BOTA) update will be a two stage process. The first update will be marked “1 of 2” and will take between 35 seconds and one (1) minute to download over 3G. The second update will be marked “2 of 2” and will take between three (3) and 10 minutes to download over 3G. The updates will download in the background and customers can resume normal operation of the device during the downloads. While customers can use their device as normal during the download process, they will be unable to make and receive calls during the installation of the update.

The update will be made available for 1000 customers on May 13, 2010. The updates will be pushed to customer devices beginning May 20, 2010.

New Blackberry OS software upgrade

The software upgrade that I did for my Blackberry Bold fixed a few issues that I had with my Blackberry Bold.

http://mobilewiseguy.com/2009/06/12/blackberry-application-memory-leak-issue.aspx

I have more application memory, it gave me about 10 more megabytes of application memory. This additional memory stopped my Blackberry from resetting because the low memory.
My camera default email address that I use to send pictures is now working with the email address that I set as the default.
The browser works a little better on some pages like Wachovia.com and YouTube.
The Visual Voice Mail feature is ok but I have been using YouMail and I had Visual Voice Mail with their service and it has more features for free.
I also got some new games on my Blackberry Bold that I have not tried yet like Tetris. The main problems I had with my Bold have been fixed with this update. I did the wireless update at night before bed because it took about two hours to complete.
