Verizon Wireless plans to have shared data plans for the family. Great news for a family of 5 all with smarthphones. Currently each line carrying a smartphone requires a data package of $30 for 2 GB of data. So if I have 5 lines on my family plan with data that’s an extra $150 a month.
Now in the coming days we will be able to pick a bucket of data and all lines can share the data.

If Verizon Wireless uses the same packages as they have now 5 lines can share 2 GB for $30, 5 GB for $50 or 10 GB for $80. That’s a huge saving over the current data plans. The overage I think will still be $10 a GB over the alloted amount. I also think they will include simple phones on the family pan that also can share in this bucket of data.

I don’t recommend the $30 data package for more than 3 smarthphones unless you are using a Blackberry or you know that this package will cover your needs. You can always check your usage online with an Verizon Wireless usage application or by dialing #data (#3282) send from your device.

The promo data plan for simple phones ends September 30th it was extended another monthst and I think right after that the shared data plans will be offered.

Verizon Wireless has phones that are great for visually Impaired customers needs. I recently got a call from a friend of a previous client he wanted me to help him find a phone for the visually impaired. I did a little research and realized a few Verizon Wireless phones have the ability to speak all of the functions. The phone has voice readouts and will speak all the digits when dialing the menu functions and the incoming text messages.
I showed the client two phone models when he met me at a Zephyrhills store. One was the Samsung Haven which is a basic phone without a camera or Bluetooth technology and the other was the LG Octane a phone with a QWERTY keyboard for texting. Both phones did what he wanted but he was a big texter so the LG Octane was his choice.
My smartphone also has the ability to speak all the commands but I never tried the texting part of it to see if it would read the incoming text but I am sure if the phone did not have that capability there would be an application for it.

Stupid move for Blackberry they specialize in security and privacy. Now this shows everyone nothing is private or secure even on the Blackberry devices.
I had praised Blackberry months ago when they would not let other countries bully them into sharing information. These countries are in the middle east and they wanted to monitor everything sent and received by Blackberry users.
Blackberry sales are on the decline and the only thing they have above the rest of the pack like Android, Apple and Windows is the secure system they have, now it seems its not so secure.

Turn your Smartphone off once a day and pull the battery out once a week for best performance. If you are like me and use many applications daily you should do the recommended procedure above. This will stop unnecessary applications from running in the background and prolong battery life daily.

Some people like using a task manager application to stop applications from running but these task killer app use more memory and power than they save. Android phones with 2.1 or newer software have a built in task killer and adding a task killer defeats the purpose.

Yesterday I had a client complain his battery died after a few hours. After examining his HTC Incredible 2 I realized he had downloaded a battery saver application and that was the culprit. That app ate up 72% of his battery so we deleted the app and problemsolved was solved.

The older versions of Android operating systems did require a task killer but Android learned from this and corrected the issue with later updates and all new Android phones are already equipped with battery saver and app killer options.

Read this article below from Motorola concerning turning your phone off.

A month ago I went out looking for an inexpensive sound system for the house that would work with our television. I looked at surround sound systems at Best Buy but the prices were $500 to over $1000 and I was not about spend that much money on a system for music.
I don’t have a regular stereo in my house all or most of the music I listen to comes from my phone (Pandora, Slacker and downloaded music).

The solution I picked was an LG sound bar that comes with a wireless subwoofer and Bluetooth technology. The LG system cost $249.99 and it works with my TV and Sony PlayStation using optical cables and my Motorola Xoom, Motorola Droid X, Motorola Back flip and all my Bluetooth enable devices can play the music through this system.

I don’t have real surround sound but the sound is much better and now I have a wireless stereo using any of my devices.

Verizon Wireless will end the unlimited data smartphone feature on July 6th 2011. The feature is $29.99 now for unlimited data usage and after July 6th customers will be able to pick from three packages.

$30 for 2 GB of data $10 a GB for any overages
$50 for 5 GB of data $10 a GB for any overages
$80 for 10 GB of data $10 a GB for any overages
‘
What does that mean for Verizon Wireless current customers is if you already have the unlimited data feature you will be able to keep it (grandfather in) but after July 6th current and new customers looking to get into a smartphone will only have one of the three options above to pick from.

My recommendation is anyone that streams a lot of media like music and videos should jump on the unlimited data option now before its too late.

What I am hoping is with the new data plans families now can share data. If you had a family plan with 5 smartphones now you are paying $29.99 times 5 smartphones close to $150 a month for the data feature only on the smartphones but after July 6th you can spend $30 and share 2 Gigabytes of data between the 5 smartphones. I don’t recommend the 2 Gigabytes for 5 smartphones thats not much data to share unless the smartphones are Blackberry devices the other two higher data plan options should cover most users.

After July 6th 2011

$30 gives you a monthly allowance of 2GB/mo. For 90% of customers, it is more than sufficient for uploading pictures, browsing the web, checking in on Facebook, downloading and using apps, and everything in between.

What are the levels of data I can purchase?

- 2GB for $30/mo, 5GB for $50/mo, and 10GB for $80/mo. Adding mobile hotspot adds 2GB of allowance and $20/mo on top of your data package.

How can I check to make sure I won’t go over my monthly allowance?

- An app called My Verizon is included with your phone. You can use it as well as a widget included to monitor your useage and check on it anytime.

I’m an exisiting customer. Can I keep my $30 unlimited data plan if I upgrade to a smartphone from a smartphone?

- Yes you can. It stays on your plan unless you ask to change the data plan.

What if I’m going to a 4G smartphone from a 3G smartphone?

- You can keep your unlimited data plan even if you are upgrading to a 4G device.

I have a feature phone with a $30 unlimited data package. Can I keep that when upgrading to a smartphone?

- Yes you can. It stays on your plan unless you ask to change the data plan.

Any other questions, email me.

The only choice for the Apple iPhone with data is the $29.99 unlimited data. Verizon Wireless is ending the $15 150MB data package on 1/30/11 and the only choice for Smartphones will be the unlimited package. Verizon will have a new package for simple phones and that will be $10 for 75MB or the simple phones can choose the $29.99 unlimited data package.

Smartphones on Verizon will only have the $29.99 option for data. The introduction of the Apple iPhone was probably a significant factor on this decision.

That $15 150 MB data package was great for most Blackberry users. If you want to save money on your monthly bill because you don’t use much data, change your plan before 1/30/11 and that plan will be grandfather in. I would recommend any Blackberry user to check there data usage and change now.

There is also another great deal being lost because of this data change. The Palm Pixi can add the $15 data package and that also includes 5 GB of hot spot data on the Palm Pixi.

Get the Palm Pixi now!

I wonder if you get a smartphone before the $15 data package ends on 1/30/11 and switch to the Apple iPhone within the 14 day exchange policy if you can keep the $15 data package?

Users of the base MetroPCS plan apparently will not have access to such Internet content, websites, applications, and services. Users of the intermediate plan will have their use of such services capped at 1 GB per month, even though these users can continue to use their mobile broadband plans for other content, applications and services (most notably, some forms of web browsing, along with YouTube video viewing).

The other day I needed another internet connection for my laptop so I downloaded an application called PDAnet on my laptop. PDAnet allows you to teather your PDA to your computer and use the PDA as a wireless modem. Now I can use my Motorola Backflip as a modem to access the internet on my laptop and desktop.

I have heard about this application before but I never took the time and looked into it. I have a Verizon Wireless data card that I use for my laptop and desktop computers. I have used the Verizon Wireless data card for all my internet needs for a few years now.

My girlfriend is always using my data card on the desktop so I tried out PDAnet and to my surprise it was as easy as 123.

I did a Google search for pdanet and the first website I saw on the search I clicked on it and download the software specific for Vista and Android. The installation process took less than 5 minutes to get it up an running. The internet speed is remarkably fast and it has not given me any issues as of yet, plus because I am using an at&t Android phone I still can talk on the phone while surfing the web from my laptop.

I do have a warning at&t has limits on your data now and you can easily go over using your phone as a modem. I have unlimited data with at&t that I am grandfather in on but I will still have to be cautious because at&t and the other wireless carriers do not want you to do this with your PDA phone without paying for the teathering feature. The teathering feature with most wireless providers range in price from $20 to $30 a month and the usage is limited to 2Gb to 5GB.

The PDAnet application that I downloaded is a great solution for anyone who needs to use a computer on the road. I now have another option to connect my computers to web.

The PDAnet allowed me to surf sites on any computer with my Backflip but it would not let me go to secure sites (https) unless I upgraded the PDAnet for a one time fee of $15.95. I paid the one time fee of $15.95 and now I am able to go to any site without any problems. This fee is transferable if you change Android phones and it can be used on any computer.

PDAnet works with most smartphones and operating systems (Blackberry, Apple OS, Android and Palm).

<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-2667468107728656";
/* 300x250, created 11/6/10 */
google_ad_slot = "9014632785";
google_ad_width = 300;
google_ad_height = 250;

I wanted to do quick video and post it to the web using my cell phone. I thought it would be easy to take the video and then upload it from the phone to YouTube so it can be used on my Blog.

I only can take a short video with my Blackberry Bold 9700 and send the video through MMS to YouTube. The video is sent as a multimedia message to YouTube and the anyone can see your video on YouTube. After the video is uploaded to Youtube it can be link to websites and or Blogs.

The issue I have is that a MMS video is only 30 seconds and the quality is not as good as normal videos that can be taken with the Blackberry Bold 9700. A normal video can be hours long as long as you have room on your media card.

I have a few other ways to upload longer and better quality videos to YouTube. First is after taking a good quality video with the phone take my media card and use the SD adapter to upload the video from my laptop to YouTube.

Secondly is my Motorola Backflip an Android device let’s me upload videos taken with it directly to YouTube without the 30 second restriction. I am sure it has something to do with Google owning Android mobile operating system and Youtube. My first test was a 5 minute video I took waiting for the draw bridge to open. I realized later more than 2 minutes took way too long to upload directly from the cell phone.

Then I remembered using an application on my Blackberry Bold 9000. It is called Qik, this application allow you to stream the video live and the video can be an hour or more. I stopped using Qik only because it is not supported on my Blackberry Bold 9700. Qik works on many devices Android, iPhones, Windows Mobile and some models of the Blackberry.

Qik is the easiest way to put videos on the web.

Check out some videos on my Qik website.

I can not stand being without my Blackberry so I unlocked my Blackberry from at&t and activated the device on T-Mobile with a data only plan. What is a data only plan you may ask.
Well I was told by the T-Mobile rep that I could only use the internet but I found that not to be completely correct. I did send text from the device and using Google voice but when I try to make a call I was sent to a recording saying that this is not allowed and to call customer service.
I went to Myt-mobile.com to checkout my services and confirm if any additional charges.

The first thing I notice after registering and logging in was my data usage that shown for the day but I did see text that I sent. The text was not shown but I saw unlimited picture messaging so I clicked the chat button on T-Mobile’s site to get a better explanation of the plan.
After the conversation I emailed the whole transcript to myself and it is copied below.

You have been connected to _Cavin H._Cavin H:
Hi Curtis , welcome to T-Mobile live Chat. I’m
Cavin and I will be happy to assist you. Please give me a moment to review your question._
Cavin H: I can see where this can be a concern for you, I know you want to make sure that you are not charged for anything extra._
Cavin H: I will be more than happy to look into this for you.
Curtis Matthews: ok_
Cavin H: One moment please._Cavin H: I am still researching this, please allow me 2-3 more minutes.
Curtis Matthews: ok_
Cavin H: Thank you._
Cavin H: It is unlimited text messaging.
Curtis Matthews: Are you sure_
Cavin H: Let me double check.
Curtis Matthews: Online under my account it says unlimited picture messages_
Cavin H: I do see that._
Cavin H: It does not include text, sorry about that.Curtis Matthews: So I do not have text but I have unlimited picture messages?_
Cavin H: Correct.
Curtis Matthews: So I can not text or do I get charged?_
Cavin H: You will get charged.
Curtis Matthews: What will I be charged?_
Cavin H: $0.20 per message.
Curtis Matthews: Why then can I not see the usage online if I sent text_
Cavin H: Because it hasn’t shown that there have been any sent to this point.
Curtis Matthews: I did send a couple about 5 hours ago._
Cavin H: It hasn’t shown up on the system, yet.
Curtis Matthews: But all the data usage shows now. So what you are telling me is that I will see the text usage tomorrow for text?_
Cavin H: More than likely.
Curtis Matthews: Can you check to see for sure._
Cavin H: Unfortuantely, we can only check, when it shows up on our end.Curtis Matthews: So instead of sending a text if I send the message as a MMS I will not get billed?_
Cavin H: Correct.
Curtis Matthews: That does not make sense but ok._
Cavin H: It is an odd little plan.Curtis Matthews: Very odd
Curtis Matthews: So I can block text and only use MMS?_
Cavin H: No, we can only block text and mms.
Curtis Matthews: So if I send someone a MMS and they reply y text I get charged unless they reply as a MMS. But you can send a MMS without a picture or any attachment._
Cavin H: You would have to send a mms from a picture on the phone.
Curtis Matthews: No I can just select MMS from my Blackberry and it gives me the option of attaching pictures, music or a voice note._
Cavin H: Then you can.
Curtis Matthews: ok thanks_
Cavin H: Not a problem._
Cavin H: Is there anything else we can assist you with today?
Curtis Matthews: no thanks_
Cavin H: Thank you for contacting T-Mobile Chat, have a great evening!

DataPlus @ $15/200MB (overage = $15/200MB)
DataPro @$25/2GB (overage = $10/1GB)
Both plans include unlimited data via Wi-Fi at home, school, office

Note: Existing Smartphone customers can keep their current $30 Data
Unlimited plan or choose one of the new plans without any penalty or

The new Blackberry Bold 9700 and all at&t Blackberry devices went on sale a couple of days ago. This sparked a buying frenzy for anyone interrested in getting a Blackberry but it also boosted the export market for the Blackberry Devices.
A few weeks ago I sold my Blackberry Bold 9000 for &250 on Craigslist.org. I got many calls for my Blackberry and I inquired why there were a few guys buying up all the used Blackberry devices for sale. I found out these guys were buying for export to Venezuela. The market for Blackberry devices in South America is huge and the devices cost a lot more there than it cost in the United States. I then checked with some of my friends who are in the cell phone export business and they confirmed that they have orders prepaid for thousands of Blackberry 9700s. Now that the Blackberry devices are less expensive for the next few weeks the market is jumping at this oppertunity and buying up all they can before the price goes back up.

The blackberry 9700 was selling wholesale for $450 now they are selling for $360 wholesale. This leaves a huge mark up for exporters in South America. The Blackberry 9700 sells whole sale in Venezuela for around $600+

Blackberry Bold 9700 Free Wireless Consultant is offering a Free Blackberry 9700 Bold
