Wireless Internet Card FAQs
What is a Wireless Internet Card?
Wireless internet cards – also called laptop cards, wireless modems and PC cards – are devices that attach to your computer to give you access to the internet over a wireless carrier’s cellular network. Most wireless internet cards now support 3G data speeds, and are convenient if you want to access the internet wirelessly anywhere, anytime, without a Wi-Fi hotspot or a wired connection.
My laptop has Wi-Fi. Do I need a laptop card?
No, but a wireless internet card and data plan from your wireless carrier will let you access the internet at high speeds from anywhere in the country where your carrier provides coverage – indoors, outdoors, or even on the road. With Wi-Fi you need to be within range of a Wi-Fi hot spot (usually 20-30 feet) to get connectivity to the internet.
How much does this kind of connection cost per month?
To use a wireless internet card, you will need a data plan subscription from a wireless carrier. Most carriers’ standard data plan offers 5 GB (or gigabytes) of data use per month for about $60 per month. This information is intended as a guide and actual usage and rates may vary.
So the standard data plan includes up to 5 GB of data – how much is that?
5 GB is the equivalent of 5,120 MB (or megabytes) of data. Using general assumptions, 5 GB per month lets you send or receive 150,000 emails with no attachments or 50,000 emails with a five page Microsoft Word document attached to each. Surfing the internet, you could visit 30,000 typical web pages per month if you aren’t downloading files. A song download is about 1 MB per song (or 5,000 songs per month). Short internet video clips are about 3 MB, but downloading a 2-hour movie will use about 1.5 GB (that’s only 3 movies per month). We recommend downloading large files when you are connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, which doesn’t use your 3G data allowance at all. In short, 5 GB is a lot of data for most users. This information is intended as a guide and actual usage and rates may vary.
Can I share my card between multiple laptops?
Your data service will only work with your wireless internet card. You can easily move your card from one computer to another, but it can only be plugged into one computer at a time. Multiple computers can access the internet through a single laptop card if the card is used to power a 3G Wi-Fi router, provided that all PCs are in range of the router’s hot spot. Another alternative is a MiFi, now available with certain carriers. A MiFi has a built-in wireless internet card and allows up to 5 devices to connect simultaneously to the internet via Wi-Fi. Think of it as a mobile hotspot you can control.
Do wireless internet cards work on Macs as well as PCs?
Yes. Most of our wireless internet cards work on both Macs and PCs. Just make sure to choose a card that’s compatible with your laptop.
How do I know which wireless internet card to choose?
Wireless internet cards are distinguished by how they connect to your computer. Some connect via USB, and this may be the best option for you if you are unsure what type of card is compatible with your laptop. Also, there are several 2-in-1 cards available now that come with an Express-to-PCMCIA adaptor, thus allowing the card to be used in either an Express slot or a PCMCIA slot.

My first iphone Blog using Wordpress application
I am using a Wordpress application that I downloaded to my Apple iPhone to do this post. I have not updated this Blog in a few days and Thanksgiving and Black Friday went by and Cyber Monday is around the corner.
I am so used to typing on my Blackberry I dreaded to use the iPhone to update my Blog with a new post.
But I am missing the boat I need to be writing about all the mobile phone deals offered online and adding my affiliate links for people to buy these mobile phone offers. The offers out there are much better than the deals you can get in the stores and I just need to tell the world where to find the best cell phone deal online that fits their specific needs.
They cell phone consumer might just need a new line on their family plan or they might want to change their cell phones to new models and depending on the situation the online cell phone deals are different.
For example I will not be able to get a free Blackberry if I am not qualified to have my upgrade and it depends if I am the primary line or secondary line. The online cell phone deals are different depending on the plan, if it’s a new line or upgrade, primary or secondary line and what features you might have to get. The good thing is that I am affiliated with most of the mobile phone carriers in the United States so if I have consumers click my affiliate cell phone links I will get credit (paid) and since it’s the best deals online with my help showing you how to and where to place the cell phone order I should do well.
That’s my goal for this Blog and my other website http://wirelessconsultant.net to be able to direct the cell phone consumer to the right deal for their cell phone needs with my help and direction. I also have my web guy Frank Madison helping me with how and what I need to do to be successful at online marketing.
Blackberry Bold 9700
We just got the Blackberry Bold 9700 today for at&t and so far today we sold about 20. The cost on at&t from me in the store is $450 non contract, $299 with $100 rebate with 2 year contract new or upgrade and $350 with $100 rebate early upgrade. Early upgrades can be done after completing six months of any new contract if you have not done an early upgrade within a year and if you did an early upgrade you can do one every year.
We are limited with the amount of non contract phones we can sell at the beginning because we would like to have our customers whom been waiting for the new Bold and are doing a new contract or upgrade to come first.
Call me at 754-273-5544 if you would like to pick up a Blackberry 9700 in Dade or Broward county Florida. I will check your account to tell you if you can do an upgrade and I will go over you plan to try and save you money$$$. Check out my online deals for the new Blackberry 9700 for at&t and T-Mobile.
AT&T retailers will have a hard time this holiday season
So far this month has been extremely slow for us. We have 2 AT&T retail stores in South Florida, one in Miami and another in Weston. Both stores are rated very high in customer service and we are proud of our achievement but customer service does not pay the bills. Selling new activations for cell phones, U-verse, home phones, Direct TV and DSL pays the bills. Consumers are still not used to coming into a AT&T cell phone store to order home services and not everyone has U-verse available in there neighborhood. So our main business is still cell phone sales.
I hate to repeat myself but if we had the iPhone we would double our business but AT&T corporate will not let that happen until after the holiday season. What will happen on Black Friday is everyone will rush to the malls and the big box stores to get those great deals offered but the AT&T indirect dealers can not match deals that a national big box store can. Those big box stores can lose money or break even on the cell phone deal hoping that while you are in the store you will purchase other items, maybe a T.V. or computer. Whatever deals AT&T retailers can offer is at the mercy of AT&T they can raise the price or lower the price of our inventory and offer discounts as they please. I believe the industry is about to have a shake up, a lot of stores will close and the few that are left will not be as profitable like back in the days. When I first started selling cell phones companies like Cellular One and Bellsouth Mobility were paying $750+ commission per new activation now its 1/6 of that if you are lucky. I am lucky I can compete with any cell phone deal with my online cell phone stores.

Transferring Cell Phone Contacts and files
I just had to transfer contacts from a Verizon Motorola Q to a at&t Sony Ericsson W300. This sounds easy but the Sony had its sim card filled 250 spaces (SIM cards only hold 250 numbers) and they were all filled, the cell phone’s memory had 265 spaces out of 1000 filled. That told me the phone had around 735 spaces open.
Cell phone’s Sim card memory and cell phone memory storage capabilities are different. The main difference is that on the cell phone memory you can add a picture, ringtone and other details to each contact.
So I had to copy the contacts from the Motorola Q and the phone contacts from the Sony Ericsson onto a USB drive. Then open those files on my computer merge the contacts and create a new file with the merge contacts. Now the last thing is to overwrite the existing memory on the Sony Ericsson with the new combined phone book file.
It was a mission but the at&t store at 2242 Weston Road in Weston Florida is the best in the industry.
