About MobileWiseGuy
Curtis Matthews is the MobileWiseguy and has been in the mobile phone industry for 23 years now. I started in 1986 with a cell phone company in Miami called National Communication Services or NatCom for short. The first cell phone service I sold was CellularOne which one of the two services offered in Miami, the second was Bellsouth Mobility which I sold after CellularOne. At that time cell phone companies had to have a bay area to install car phones into cars. I was located in South Dade off 120 street in South Dade warehouses. My bay area would accommodate 7 cars at a time. Now you also needed special equipment to program these car phones and you had to have trained installer who had knowledge in doing repairs also. I had certificates from Motorola and Audiovox myself as a authorized technician. My technicians were trained in most of the cell phone makes at that time. Oki was the number one cell phone maker back then.
Now after the industry changed in the early 90s because of (charge backs) I had gotten out of the business only to return in 1995 working as a manager for a company called Cellular Warehouse which sold Bellsouth Mobility. CellularOne had sold out to AT&T Wireless in our region and was still the only competition for Bellsouth Mobility in South Florida. Cellular Warehouse was the number one agent for Bellsouth Mobility in the South Eastern United States with around 30 stores. Cellular Warehouse eventually got purchased by a company called Letstalk. Letstalk had been buying up all the cell phone stores around the United States. Letstalk was started by Brett Beveridge out of a kiosk in Dadeland mall in Miami. That kiosk in Dadeland mall was a gold mine for Letstalk it led to an cell phone empire of over 260 stores nationwide.
While working for Letstalk I started to sell other wireless providers like Omnipoint which is T-Mobile now, Primeco which is Verizon wireless now, Nextel and SprintPCS which is just Sprint now. Learning all about each wireless carrier from there beginnings gave me more knowledge than most cellular sales persons. I also personally still have a Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T cell phone. My data card is an unlimited grandfather plan with Verizon. A few years later I while working with Letstalk I came up with the name Wireless Consultant because I felt I was not a sales person anymore because I offered all the cell phone services available in South Florida and they all had a unique quality that might or might not fit your wireless needs. I even started my first website callhttp://wirelessconsultant.net. That site is set up with cell phones from most of the major cell phone providers in the United States with great deals and discounts on cell phones.
After Letstalk had sold its retail store to Nextel I continued to work in the cell phone industry but only doing outside sales. I did work corporate for Cingular in the b2b division for about a year. My position was a KAE (key account manager), then back to outside sales. This went on for a few years until I took over a Verizon Wireless store in South Miami, Florida. That Verizon store was a partnership with Exit wireless a company that I been doing business with for years. Exit was a Sprint dealer then a T-Mobile dealer and eventually became a Verizon Wireless agent.
After my lease was done in South Miami I decided not to continue with Exit wireless and the Verizon agency. I wanted to try other things besides cell phones.
I started to work in the health club business in LA Fitness out of the Sawgrass location in Broward county. I worked at LA Fitness for about 3 months and hated it. I thought since I always lived a healthy lifestyle and trained most of my life that this would be a breeze but it was not like I thought. I was burning out with the long work hours and working in a gym but not having time to work out myself was not cool. So my friends who had a couple of AT&T stores asked my to come join them and manage one of the stores. I jumped at the offer and today I am in Weston, Florida selling all of AT&T services cell phones, home phones, DSL, U-verse and mainly Blackberries. We are experts in the Weston store on Blackberry. I also still have a network of stores which allow me to offer all of the cell phone services in South Florida and my website http://wirelessconsultant.net allows me to still sell online nationally. I realized my experience and knowledge in the cell phone industry was a great topic to write a Blog about and this is how I came up with MobileWiseGuy.com.
